The beauty and the orgasm

Thursday was beautiful. I was walking to class when I happened to glance up and saw how the autumn blue sky was blanketed by long stretches of clouds. It resembled white sand on the bottom of the ocean. Or the dunes of the desert.

Something else that caught my eye was when I was walking downtown and I saw something that looked like leaves suspended in mid-air. When I looked closer, I saw that they were caught on a spider web. It was like a moment frozen in time. I wanted to take a picture but the spider web probably wouldn't show up and it would just look like I took a photograph of leaves flying through the air.

On a more academic note, we talked about sexual themes for the book we were reading in class (aptly named the "The Turn of the Screw")and the teacher brought up orgasms. He was asking if anyone knew the French word for "orgasm" and immediately looked at me.

Needless to say, I was beyond confused. "Why are you looking at me?"
"Because you studied French," was his only reply. Yeah, so did Kaitlynn, who was sitting immediately to his left.
"I studied French but I never studied the word for orgasm."
For some reason, this sent a ripple of laughter through the class.
"How can you study French without studying orgasms?" my teacher said in all seriousness as he turned back to the board. Then he wrote out the French word for orgasm. Yeah. After he asked me. (It's "Le Petite Mort", by the way, which I think translates to "The Little Death". Very appealing name for an orgasm, don't you think?).

Wow, I just realized that I had a "My Life Is Average" moment. Well, I guess my life isn't so average anymore.

Love and Other Disasters

The title of this blog post is taken from the title of a movie that John was trying to show to Johnathon and me. It featured Brittany Murphy in the lead role and the movie itself looked promising. Sadly, we were watching it on the internet and it didn't stream well so we gave up.

It did have the cute idea of presenting the movie preceded by clips where the scenes were written out like they are in a script. I want to do that someday if I ever achieve my dream and become an Indie filmmaker.

Emotional high

I've been on an emotional high lately. I had trouble falling asleep Saturday night because I was so happy. The past few days I've been smiling like crazy (and at random intervals). I know that I'm going to crash eventually (what goes up must come down), but I don't care. I'm trying to enjoy my high for right now (while it lasts). I don't usually get this happy (or stay that way for this long) so I'm taking advantage of it.

Cheers, my friends! To life!

Exam Scores

We just got our exam scores back today. For most of the class, they did better than the first exam. For some people, their exam grade even went up by 18 points! Well...for me, my exam grade went down by two. Great. Just...great.

Guess who's back?

So I was taking pictures of this guy playing guitar in the Brooks Center. I wonder if he noticed...

My roommate's wife came over today and made something called tomato crumble. OMG, I want to learn this recipe. And the wife was friendly too. She's tall, bespectacled, and curvy--I can see why my roommate married her.

I played a game called "two truths and one lie" today with the GSA club. Yeah, pretty much all of them knew my truth. Except for the one guy I thought WOULD know. Hah, I'm glad he doesn't know that much about me.

After GSA, he said, "I hope they return the keg." I think he was referring to his job. Apparently, he tricked some people into paying for a keg that they could have gotten for free. "I hope they still have the tap. I didn't charge them for that."

Made a new friend today. His name is Alex. I call him the Barefoot Guy (because he walks around barefoot sometimes. Very unique. Very gutsy). I told him that I see him all the time, in Brackett, on the bus...He even lives in the same apartment complex I do! Apparently, he never notices me since he was surprised I knew him. But he did say that he was glad that was how he was known--as the Barefoot Guy. We had an exam today too and it was funny watching him take an exam. He leans way over the desk with his test sheet on the very edge. It's like he's all nonchalant and laid-back about everything. And he's got a friendly face too.

In Anthropology class, we discussed infanticide (infanticide is killing babies and Anthropology is humanities class). Very intriguing. Very depressing.

I sat at the lake today and talked to Melissa. We both decided that she was very right to be happy with her life right now. We also decided that I had trouble forming attachments to people. But more on that later.

Peace, my friends. Must sleep now.

Being hit on by old white guys....

This happened on Tuesday. I was in Ingles buying groceries to make dinner and I was pretty much done when this old white guy in one of those scooter-motor-shopping carts came up to me and said, "You're a really pretty girl."

I thought he was just trying to be nice. "Thank you," I said back, just to be polite.

"You're a really pretty girl," he said again. "I like your hat. What are you, Chinese?"

OF COURSE. Just because I'm Asian, it MUST mean that I'm Chinese.

"Vietnamese, actually," I told him.

"Oh, well, you're a really pretty girl," he repeated. And then he said something unintelligible. And RIGHT AFTER THAT, he said, "If you'll pardon the sexy language."

I laughed nervously. "Okay." And then I pushed my shopping cart away to go check out.

Wowz. I told my roommates about it later and my friend Raven said that old white guys liked to hit on Asian females because they have this fantasy that the girl will be submissive to them. Ahahahahaha. Yeah. Right. Just wait until you know me.

Raven also mentioned that the unintelligible thing I heard might have been his attempt at speaking Chinese...even AFTER I told him that I wasn't Chinese. I definitely know that it wasn't my language, but to try that anyway? I don't even know what to call it.

Anyway, here is what I've been cooking so far in my attempts to feed my roommates something edible:

Monday: Chicken Florentine
Tuesday: Sauteed Chicken (family recipe)
Wednesday: Oreo Cheesecake (for dessert, not for a meal)
Thursday: Haven't decided yet. I do know that I need to buy some more noodles so I can finish off the leftover spaghetti but I don't know what to cook tonight. Eh, I'll probably wing it.
